EAT A PLANT BASED DIET

Study after study has shown those who consume more vegetables and fruits tend to have less medical issues relating to the heart and can often get off medications that they currently are on. As always it’s best to consult your physician when modifying your diet if you are on prescription medications.

FORKS OVER KNIVES

There is a fantastic movie called Forks Over Knives, that talks about how individuals have transformed their lives by switching to a plant based diet.

The movie delves into aspects of a Western based meat oriented diet vs an Eastern based fruit, vegetable & whole grains based diet.

Some of the key aspects of the Forks Over Knives Plant Based Diet is to consume more of the following

  • Fruits (Apples, Bananas, Figs, Grapes, Strawberries, Oranges…)
  • Vegetables (Lettuce, Kale, peppers..)
  • Tubers (Sweet Potatoes, Potatoes, Yams, Carrots, Beets…)
  • Whole Grains (Millet, Quinoa, Barley, Rice, Whole Wheat…)
  • Legumes (Kidney Beans, Chickpeas, Cannellini Beans, Lentils, Black Beans…)

The goal is to eat whole unrefined or minimally refined plants. It’s a diet based on fruits, vegetables, tubers, whole grains, and legumes. The diet removes or minimizes the consumption of meat (including chicken and fish), dairy products, and eggs, as well as highly refined foods like bleached flour, refined sugar, and oil.
