Chest pain can be a warning sign of a potential heart attack or caused by an assortment other activities that aren’t heart related. Usually Chest Pain that is accompanied with other warning signals should be taken serious and could be a sign of an impending heart attack.

Heart Attack related chest pain can feel like uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of the chest.

How Do You Know If The Chest Pain Is Heart Attack Related?

When evaluating your chest pain condition, remain calm. The table below is designed to allow you to self diagnose your condition, but if in doubt always consult your doctor or medical professional.

Signs Of A Heart Attack

  • Uncomfortable pressure, squeezing, fullness or pain in the center of the chest
  • Pain gradually gets worse over the course of a few minutes.
  • Pain spreads over a wide area of the chest, but feels constant in the middle of the chest.
  • Pain expands to the left arm, neck, jaw, or back
  • Pain is accompanied with other warning signals such as difficulty breathing, a cold sweat, or sudden nausea.
  • Pain or pressure brought about during or after physical exertion or emotional stress or while you are at rest.

Signs Of Other Issues

  • Sharp pain triggered by breathing or coughing
  • Sharp pain that lasts only a few seconds
  • Pain that is isolated to one side of the body
  • Pain that is isolated to one small area of the body
  • Pain that continues for many hours or days without any other symptoms
  • Pain triggered by pressing on the chest or through body motion
